Position Description Deadline to Apply: 12/2/13 Penn Medicine’s Trauma Program is Expanding: In early 2015, Penn Medicine’s Level 1 Regional Trauma Resource Center, currently located at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, will move to its new home at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The new facilities have leveraged decades of experience to design a brand new space, literally from the ground up, that will modernize and expand our capabilities in areas including IR, Neuro IR, Neurosurgery, Ortho Trauma and Trauma Critical Care. Penn Medicine is committed to ensuring that the Penn Medicine Trauma Center at Presbyterian Medical Center will provide world-class care to trauma patients on Day 1. To be successful, we need uniquely qualified leaders in Advanced Practice with the skill, experience and passion to fill new roles in the expanded Trauma program. Announcing: Critical Care Advanced Practitioner Fellowship Program (6 Open positions for a 10 month Fellowship, beginning March 3, 2014) This is a post graduate fellowship program designed for acute certified nurse practitioners and certified physician assistants who have a lifelong commitment to learning and seeking a career in Traumatology, Surgical Critical Care & Emergency Surgery and NeuroCritical Care at Penn Medicine with opportunity for employment following successful completion of program. The purpose is to train qualified nurse practitioners and physician assistants to function as clinical expert providers in the specialty tracks of Trauma, Surgical, Neuro and Emergency Critical Care through a 10-month program-of thorough, didactic and clinical curriculum. Department physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants participate as mentor/preceptors in the program. The focus of training is in the development of expertise in critical care specialty tracks noted where trainees will participate in 60 hours of work per week (50 clinical and 10 academic hours) including simulation training in common scenarios. Each fellow is required to participate and pass simulation competency requirements. At the end of the program-Post Master’s certification granted (3 CUs) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. You may also be eligible for Loan Forgiveness (maximum total $40,000). **Along with submitting this on-line application, please include the following: • A one-page personal narrative describing professional goals and interest in post graduate training in Traumatology, Surgical Critical Care or Emergency Surgery or NeuroCritical Car • A resume/CV, including a description of past critical care, trauma or neuro experience, if any. Trauma and Critical Care or NeuroCritical Care experience preferred. • Three (3) letters of recommendation, at least one from your current or recent clinical supervisor/ physician Note: To be considered into the fellowship program you will need to commit in writing to a 24 month (minimum) term of employment at Penn Medicine at current competitive salaries after successful completion of the program. **Successful completion of the program and credentialing through the University of Pennsylvania Medical Board will be required to be considered for employment. **All applications will be reviewed by Recruitment and the Program Director, and finalists for the Fellowship positions will be contacted to interview by Phone/Video in November 2013. Face to Face interviews will take place in December 2013. Final selections will be completed by January 2014. Minimum Requirements • Master’s prepared Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Must be New to Practice in Advanced Practice) • Pennsylvania state licensure and acute care nurse practitioner certification or certified Physician assistant is required. • Ability to commit and work at least 60 hours (includes class time) per week (including nights, weekends and holidays) for the entire 10 month program. • BLS, ACLS required. • Commit to 24 months (two years, full time) of Penn Medicine work following successful completion of Fellowship program and offer of employment. • Critical Care background/Trauma/NeuroCritical Care experience preferred. • A Health Care Assessment, references and personal interview is required. In addition you must clear all required drug screen and back ground checks and attest to a non-tobacco user to be eligible.
