Applicants must have a strong interest in clinical practice of trauma, surgical critical care and acute care surgery. In addition, applicants need to demonstrate a commitment to scientific research in either basic science, clinical trials or health services research. The ACS team offers trauma care, surgical care for patients with critical illness, burn and wound care, emergency and some elective surgery. Research programs in translational and clinical outcomes are in place and the candidate would be expected to participate in these efforts. The successful candidate will have completed a Fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care and/or ACS. Candidates must have a strong interest in Trauma, Burn, and Critical Care, possibly to include Cardiovascular Critical Care. They should be BC/BE in Surgical Critical Care. Opportunities for participation in Emergency and Elective General Surgery are available and will be part of the selected candidate’s clinical activities. MMC has 637 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital and an ACS verified Level I Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and integration with Tufts University Medical School. MMC admits 2000+ trauma patients, 600+ Critical Care patients, and 1600 emergency general surgery patients each year. Pre-hospital trauma care is provided by fixed wing, helicopter and ground-based units. The successful candidate will be employed by MMP, a subsidiary of MMC and Maine’s largest multi-specialty group, serving patients throughout the state and in Northern New England. This high quality team of over 500 physicians and 200 advanced practice professionals is based at MMC and delivers care through a network of 30 locations across the State and acts as a regional referral network.
