(Posted Mar 15, 2016) – Carilion Clinic is searching for a 5th full-time Acute Care Surgeon to join its existing faculty of 12 Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgeons at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 703-bed academic/tertiary care medical center with a Level 1 Trauma Program evaluating over 2,300 patients a year, 90% blunt and 10% penetrating, from a catchment area of over 1 million. A 24-bed neurotrauma and surgical ICU provides the only dedicated Surgical Critical Care service in the region. Trauma and critical care volume has consistently increased an average of 2-3% a year, and that growth is predicted to continue. All members of the Trauma/Critical Care group practice Acute Care Surgery and Emergency General Surgery and divide their time between Trauma, Critical Care, and Emergency Surgery services. The financial compensation is highly competitive and utilizes MGMA benchmarking data. Clinical support is provided by a growing cadre of Advanced Clinical Providers (ACPs) and surgical residents. (Posted Mar 25, 2016) – TRAUMA MEDICAL DIRECTOR The Division of General Surgery/Department of Surgery, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, is recruiting a Trauma Medical Director for the Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center at Eskenazi Health. The Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital (previously Wishard Memorial Hospital) was the first verified Level I Trauma Center in the state of Indiana in 1992. Level I status has been maintained (as documented by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma) through successful re-verification visits every three years to present. In December, 2013, Eskenazi Health moved to its new main campus and opened the brand new Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital with state-of-the-art facilities and technology, including the Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center and the Richard M Fairbanks Burn Center. There are 100,000 emergency department visits per year, and more than 2,000 trauma patients, 30 to 40% having sustained penetrating trauma. There are 5 state-of -the-art resuscitation rooms in the emergency department as well as 21 operating rooms, two of which are dedicated to trauma patients. The Burn Center is the only adult burn center in central Indiana and is the largest in the state. The Trauma Program is highly developed with 7 full-time double-Boarded trauma surgeons, a Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Nursing Director, an injury prevention coordinator, trauma educator, trauma clinician, performance improvement specialist, two traum registrars, a dedicated pharmacist, and administrative assistants. In addition to coverage of all trauma patients, surgical emergencies, and surgical critical care patients, the trauma surgeons are assigned on a rotating weekly basis to cover two seperate elective general surgery services. The Trauma Medical Director (TMD) will provide clinical leadership in trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery and elective general surgery. The successful candidate will also be responsible for assignments of weekly daytime coverage of services as well as call and conference schedules, process improvement, faculty development, coordination of research activities. In addition, the TMD will be responsible for supervision and coordination of all activities related to maintenance of the Level I status of the Trauma Center. In addition, the TMD responsibilities include on-site supervision of education and training of Fellows in Acute Care Surgery, Fellows in Surgical Critical Care, residents in General Surgery, and medical students rotating at Eskenazi Health. To provide facilitation and direction for a multidisciplinary trauma service with primary focus on developing/implementing and monitoring systems to enhance care of the trauma patient. The Director serves as a resource for inter-intra disciplinary team members and patient families that participate in the care of trauma patients. This individual works in close collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director to promote the goals of the Trauma Program, to qualify all care issues and system issues regarding the program development, and to optimize patient care across the age and injury spectrum. Program development, both at the hospital, local and within state/national systems is key elements to the success of this role. This individual is responsible for oversight/direction of trauma related activities, and initiates changes internally and external that will promote optimal trauma care. This person performs all functions necessary to act as an agent to the Trauma Medical Director and Administration, to ensure compliance with all hospital, local, state and American College of Surgeon’s requirements. This position maintains responsibility/accountability for 24-hour/day management. The research component is under the direction of the HCA/USF Trauma Network Research and Quality Vice President and assists various Principal Investigators, through delegated authority, with conducting clinical research and clinical trials per Federal, State, and Institutional guidelines. Responsibilities during all phases of research, including pre-study implementation through study completion, are included in the scope of this position. Education: • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) Required; • Master’s Degree preferred. Experience: • 3-5 years’ experience as a Program Manager in a Level Trauma 1 or Level 2 trauma setting.
