(Posted Mar 15, 2016) – Carilion Clinic is searching for a 5th full-time Acute Care Surgeon to join its existing faculty of 12 Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgeons at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 703-bed academic/tertiary care medical center with a Level 1 Trauma Program evaluating over 2,300 patients a year, 90% blunt and 10% penetrating, from a catchment area of over 1 million. A 24-bed neurotrauma and surgical ICU provides the only dedicated Surgical Critical Care service in the region. Trauma and critical care volume has consistently increased an average of 2-3% a year, and that growth is predicted to continue.
All members of the Trauma/Critical Care group practice Acute Care Surgery and Emergency General Surgery and divide their time between Trauma, Critical Care, and Emergency Surgery services. The financial compensation is highly competitive and utilizes MGMA benchmarking data. Clinical support is provided by a growing cadre of Advanced Clinical Providers (ACPs) and surgical residents. Our group emphasizes a team approach to comprehensive care and participates extensively in research, education, and quality processes. The hospital supports a fully accredited ACGME General Surgery Residency Program of 4 residents per year, in addition to 24 other ACGME programs, through the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) which is located on the hospital campus in Roanoke, Virginia and graduated its inaugural class of 42 doctoral students in May 2014. Academic appointments to VTCSOM available and expected for all acute care physicians. There are also expanding opportunities to conduct research in collaboration with the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, Virginia Tech University, and Jefferson College of Health Sciences.

Minimum Requirements:
- ABMS/AOA - BC/BE in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
- Must possess unencumbered medical license and be eligible for VA Licensure
- Individuals must be highly motivated, team-oriented, committed to surgical care, resident and
student teaching
