(Posted May 26, 2015) – Attending Physician, General Surgery The Department of Surgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook is seeking full-time faculty members to join the Divisions of Trauma, Critical Care, Bariatric, Foregut and Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery. The successful applicant will have a significant research track record and practice clinically within the realm of general surgery. Applicants should have an academic focus with interest and commitment to clinical practice, medical education and research. Existing research funding is desirable, but not required. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. SUNY Stony Brook Medical Center is a busy 515 bed tertiary referral hospital. It is the level one Trauma Center for Suffolk County, NY serving over 1600 trauma patients annually. Stony Brook University is known for innovation, with two Nobel prizes and the invention of MRI. Stony Brook University Medical Center is part of the SUNY (State University of NY) system. Stony Brook houses its own highly regarded medical school, nursing school, PA program and general surgical residency, graduating 6-7 residents per year. The division head is responsible for the clinical, educational and research programs of the division, including faculty recruitment and network development. Houston Methodist Hospital is the flagship tertiary care academic medical center of the system, with 982 beds, 87 operating rooms and 5 critical care units, including a 27 bed surgical intensive care unit. The clinical responsibilities of the division faculty include provision of attending coverage and programmatic direction of the surgical and liver critical care unit, emergency surgery and surgical hospitalist service, nutritional support program, and development of the surgical critical care network in the 6 Houston Methodist System hospitals in the greater Houston area. Research programs in clinical, translational and health services research are ongoing in the division and the department of surgery. (Posted Jun 23, 2015) – Trauma/Surgical Critical Care/Acute Care - Upland, PA The Crozer Keystone Health Network is seeking to recruit a Trauma/Surgical Critical Care/Acute Care Surgeon to work with the Crozer Keystone Health Network, based out of Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland PA. This is a full time opportunity at a 424-bed tertiary care community based teaching hospital. The Crozer-Chester Medical Center is a level II Regional Trauma Center, accredited by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation and an ABA-verified adult and pediatric Burn Center. The Trauma Center treats approximately 2300 trauma and burn cases per year with a robust mix of blunt and penetrating trauma cases. The Regional Burn Center is separately covered by independent burn surgeons, however all burns arriving from the field are first evaluated by the trauma team. The trauma service is supported by dedicated surgical residents, full-time advanced practitioners as well as three full-time neurosurgeons, a dedicated orthopedic team and other subspecialists; such as vascular surgery, interventional radiology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and OMFS. The trauma group also participates in acute care surgery coverage. This position will include responsibilities in Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery as well as Administrative responsibilities. The applicant must be fellowship trained in surgical critical care and be board certified (or eligible) in general surgery. A background and/or a strong interest in clinical research is a definite plus. This is an employed position. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a future expansion project that will include a major emergency department renovation to include new trauma resuscitation bays, trauma administrative / conference space, a rooftop helipad and additional critical care beds. The current ED cares for 44,000 patients per year and the hospital has 16 ORs and 33 critical care beds. Holy Spirit is licensed for 307 beds. It is anticipated that once fully operational, the Level II Trauma Center at Holy Spirit – A Geisinger Affiliate will treat more than 1,200 trauma cases per year. This position will include oversight and responsibility for Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery. It is anticipated that the clinical/administrative split will be 80% clinical and 20% administrative. The trauma service will be supported by rotating surgical residents, full-time advanced practitioners as well as full time neurosurgeons, orthopedic trauma surgeons and other subspecialists such as cardiac and vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, plastic surgery, otolaryngologists, ophthalmologists and OMFS.
